Everyone loves an easy dessert. One that is quick to make but looks and tastes like you have taken forever to make. This is a cheat’s chocolate and fresh raspberry trifle with no cooking or baking involved.
- Chocolate roll or chocolate cake
- 200g of dark chocolate
- Punnet of raspberries
- Seedless raspberry jam
- 250g Mascarpone cheese
- 400g tinned custard
- 275ml double cream
Cut the chocolate cake in to slices and spread with the raspberry jam then place them in to a trifle dish. Sprinkle over the raspberries.
Break up dark chocolate and melt all apart from 1 chunk. Whilst the chocolate is melting, mix together the mascarpone and custard until smooth. Add the melted chocolate after allowing to cool to the custard mix and stir well.
Place the chocolate custard on the top of the trifle base. Whip the cream and add to the top of the trifle, add grated chocolate to the top.
The trifle can be made in individual dishes if you like. This trifle is a rich treat and could be made with half dark and half milk chocolate or with a flavoured chocolate; sea salt and dark chocolate is delicious.

Thanks for the recipe! I made this trifle, it was luurvly! I did tweak it a bit.
Did a double layer of Swiss roll and jam with the raspberries, and then poured over raspberry jelly with a slug of sherry. Homemade rich chocolate custard and topped that with whipped double cream. My guests loved it
