Way back in 2013 which somehow seems far longer than the 7 years it is, I moved from The West Midlands to Wales. It really was the best decision at the time. I just felt so at home by the sea. I will admit on winter nights we were a little too close to the sea but we loved it there. We had moved in to our holiday home with the intention of selling our home in The Midlands and buying something with a little more space.
However, it wasn’t to be and in 2016 we moved back to The Midlands. The following year I was taken ill, more ill than I ever could imagine and came very close to dying.
Three years on. I am still having issues that began back then. I came to the conclusion a long time ago my house was far too big and I so wanted to go back to Wales. To be by the sea, To live somewhere the majority of people weren’t complete strangers.
I began looking for a house and after 2 1/2 years I found the prefect house, yes it needed some work but by drastically downsizing I had the funds to carry out these renovations.
After what seemed like for ever, we finally moved the third week of March, exactly one week before lockdown.
I had a long list of things I wanted in my new house and one of them was a real fire. I have a log burner!! This makes me all sorts go excited. Strange I know but having a real fire brings back fond memories.
The only box this house didn’t tick was a sea view but I’m about a 20 minute walk away (5mins on the bus) so this was a compromise I didn’t mind taking.
Lockdown, so far, for me has been fun!
Joke!!
I’m considered high risk and so I need to shield. Having looked at these four walls for 8 weeks, I’m beginning Mohave had enough of them. You see, lockdown has put an end to the renovations and decoration for now and although these four walls are new to me, they aren’t my four walls. I’ve not been able to put much of a stamp on the house yet because of the lockdown.
I’ve started on the decorating of my office as I need somewhere calm to sit and work, somewhere I can shut the absolute chaos of my life away so that I can concentrate to get some work completed.
Behind the scenes I have also been busy setting up a website for my house renovation. The website for This Welsh Cottage is nt live yet but the instagram account is.
Moving house in to a property that needs renovating and is 2 1/2 times smaller is never a good idea but doing so exactly a week before the country locks down for a pandemic really is not the ideal time! The past 9 weeks have been hard and quite challenging but I can honestly say I don’t regret taking this leap one little bit.
