All work and no play makes for one hell of a frazzled and stressful time. If you don’t make time in your schedule to relax and wind down your own health and business will potentially suffer. We are not robots and need time for our own physical and mental wellbeing.
I know from personal experience it is the hard work that garners results but I also know full well about feeling stressed, overwhelmed and exhausted because the juggle is real. I also know that it is vital that I slow down or take a day off when I can, so I can catch my breath before getting back on the saddle again. It serves my life and my work.
I actively try to turn off all the gadgets by 10 pm every night to rest prior to going to bed. Although I am an insomniac switching off the gadgets does help me a little to get some sleep and my body and mind certainly thank me for it the next day. I have also learnt that with chronic illnesses I need to pace myself and take regular breaks for my wellbeing.
No matter what is going on in life and regardless of how much pressure you are under always remember to give yourself a break and take time out for you;
- Stop working on your lunch break.
- Go to bed earlier.
- Pick up a book you’ve been meaning to read.
- Actually call and don’t text a friend.
- Go for a walk or run
- Watch that boxset you’ve been meaning too.
I don’t always jump out of bed every morning excited for my day, the arthritis tends to argue quite a bit (lol) but I do love my job and the life I have created by taking time out to look after my physical and mental health by taking time for me. Limiting my time on my phone and social media also is essential for me. I’ve actually deleted the Twitter/X app as I found it so toxic and left so many groups and deleted ‘friends’ on Facebook It’s amazing how liberating that felt!
I’m just a tiny piece in this huge world of ours and I don’t need to be switched ‘on’ 24/7 even if it looks like I am thanks to scheduling tools that enable me to appear everywhere, believe me, I’m not! To me, that is the key; using technology to its fullest potential to enable me to take time to recharge my batteries.
So go smell the roses more. Your mind and body will thank you for it!
