Afternoon Tea Adventures; Jonathan’s In The Park, Bearwood

14th February 2020 by Candace Leave a Comment

Earlier this week Along with Erica from A Little Luxury For Me we visited Jonathan’s In The Park for afternoon tea.

Jonathans In The Park is situated inside the beautiful grade ll listed Lightwoods House inside Lightwoods Park in Bearwood, Birmingham. During the day, Jonathans is a lovely cafe serving afternoon tea, cake, and coffee and light lunches. A few nights of week Jonathans is also open for evening meals serving local high-quality ingredients and produce.

The tea room was classically decorated with beautiful tea and coffee pots with dainty china cups and saucers. As well as afternoon tea they also serve, breakfast, lunch and a wide selection of cakes to accompany a varied choice of teas and coffees.

There were certainly enough sandwiches which were served with a selection of salad. The sandwiches contained plenty of filling with a slightly thicker bread than what is typically used for afternoon tea sandwiches which were a great addition.

Sandwich fillings include:

  • Egg Mayonnaise
  • Mature Cheddar
  • Smoked Ham
  • Tuna Mayonnaise

The scone course consisted of:

  • Large warm fruit scones
  • Cornish Clotted Cream and Strawberry Jam

I was quite surprised at the size of the fruit scones as ones that usually accompany an afternoon tea are half the size of these. The scones were light and fluffy and contained a generous amount of fruit.

The sweet course consisted of:

  • Victoria sponge
  • Chocolate cake
  • Bite Sized Macaroons
  • Custard tart
  • Black cherries

By the time we reached the sweet course, I was rather full. The scone was much more filling than I thought! The macaroon was delicious as was the victoria sponge.

The afternoon tea is served with unlimited tea or coffee.

Unlike a number of venues I have had afternoon tea at there wasn’t a set length of time. This enabled us to have a good chat without running the afternoon tea.

As I am moving to Wales in the next few weeks it will be sometime before I will have the opportunity to visit again but given the opportunity, I’d love to visit again for another afternoon tea or to sample other dishes on their menu.

Afternoon tea at Jonathan’s In The Park is priced at £17.50 and with a 200ml bottle of Prosecco is £22.50 per person.
