This week I was invited along to the preview night at The Head Of Steam, a new bar in Temple St, Birmingham that opened yesterday  The Head of Steam are a group of bars owned by Camerons Brewery.  Until recently the bars were mostly situated in the North East and Yorkshire.  The opening of the Birimgham venue along with bars in Leicester and Nottingham see the company moving further south and I can honestly say this is a great move as Head Of Steam have brought something special to Birmingham. As you enter the bar at street level there a… View Post

Glynn Purnell’s Mitchlin Starred Restaurant can be found in one of the side streets around the side of Snow Hill Station.  It’s not in the one of the areas in Birmingham where there is a great shoppers foot fall but it is well placed within plenty of offices in the vacinity.  When I arrived I was shown to my table and my drinks over was taken.  I have booked for the 4 course set menu which at £40 was reasonably priced for a mitchelin starred restaurant. To begin with I was served canapes with the mpst delightful mayonaise and a… View Post

I love the afternoon teas at Malmaison. Last summer I came with a friend to try their afternoon tea and really enjoyed it. I also came with friends to try their festive afternoon tea. Again this was lovely.  Malmaison have just introduced their new summer afternoon tea menu and clearly this new menu was something I was eager to try out. While our table was being prepared we had a cocktail in the lounge. Their cosmopolitan was lovely and was served with some delicious spicy nuts; the the right taste of spice. For the savoury course the new menu includes… View Post

I have been for afternoon tea at Malmaison before and found it to be a really nice selection of dishes.  The festive menu includes a glass of prosecco. and unlimited tea or coffee. The tea was served on a modern metal and slate stand which is ideal as a Malmaison Afternoon Tea has quite a modern feel to it with sliders and brioche buns instead of sandwiches. For the festive tea Malmaison have stayed with their nontraditional savoury selection which includes: Turkey, cranberry and stuffing wrap Mal slider pig in blanket brioche roll The fruit scone is served with jam and… View Post

It seems such a long time ago now but over the August Bank holiday weekend I went with some friends for afternoon tea at Browns in Birmingham after a few hours shopping in the Bullring.  This was my first time in Brown’s in Birmingham but whilst in Scotland in June I had visited their bar in Edinburgh.  We started with a round of Raspberry Cherry Collins which is a mix of Absolut Raspberry, Absolut Cherry, lemon juice and soda in a iced filled glass with a fresh raspberry garnish.  It was so refreshing we had to have another! The pots… View Post
