Looking For New Blinds For My Home

31st May 2018 by Candace Leave a Comment

[AD] If you are a regular reader here at Buckets Of Tea you will know that I can currently renovating my house.  I am getting to the stage of having a couple of the rooms finished and I am looking for blinds as well as curtains in order to keep light out on summer nights/early mornings and also to help keep heat in or the sun out depending upon the time of year.  The perfect blind for us would be made to measure blackout blinds.

It’s very easy to find roller blinds on various websites and instore but when you have non-standard window sizes the availability for value for money made to measure blinds is quite limited.  I came across an online UK family owned and run company who next years will have been making blinds for fifty years and offer a made to measure service on their blackout roller blinds.

All of the carpets in my house are going to be a dark grey and as I mentioned in this post all of the rooms are grey with an accent colour except the bathroom which is black, white and a pop of yellow.  My Son’s bedroom has X Men wallpaper on his bedroom wall and on the opposite wall his chimney breast is painted a bright green.  The rest of the walls are a pale grey colour as can be seen in the top left of the first photo.  I’d love a pop of colour on his window wall and think a bright green blind will pull the room together.  The wallpaper has quite a bit of red in also and this is the colour of his bedsheet with his quilt being X Men theme also.  He has some bright green scatter cushions too which would tie in nicely with a green blind.

My Bathroom is black, white and yellow and has 2 windows, the smaller of which is only 47cm square.  This can make blinds rather tricky to buy.  With the yellow walls, I think either a crisp white or a mellow yellow will look good in the bathroom with our colour scheme.

My daughter loves flamingos and just had to have flamingo wallpaper.  She loved the paper in the Carter’s bedroom on Eastenders but sadly it was discontinued, so she settled for the paper in the bottom right of the top picture.  The flamingos are actually peach which we have found quite difficult to accessorise with.  We managed to match the peach walls perfectly and have picked up the odd peach accessory but the majority of her room has a grey accent.  We can only really go with grey blinds as the peach is so awkward to match and we’ve found it can look quite a mess if it’s not the right tone of peach.  If we really wanted to match an exact colour Blinds Direct offer to send a sample for you to match up to your room at home.  A service like this can be invaluable as purchasing the wrong shade can work out a costly mistake.  As the blinds are made to measure we would have no problem in purchasing blinds to fit my daughter’s large bay window which is also replicated in the lounge below.

As much as I would have liked a new kitchen, new cabinets are certainly out of my budget right now.  Although the kitchen is nearly 40 years old they are solid oak cupboards which were built to last but were looking very dated.  I went off to my local DIY store and purchased a couple of pots of cabinet paint in a mid-grey colour and some silver metal spray and for less than £50 I have transformed the kitchen completely.  You can see the cupboards transformation here.  This has enabled me to in the future splash out on some solid beech worktops and new oven, hob and sink.  As you can see from the bottom left of the first photo I have picked some grey oblong tiles and the walls will be baby pink.  In order to tome down the whole house being grey, I think some pink blinds on the large window and door will be ideal.

Are you carrying out and renovations on your home at the moment?  Would you find made to measure blackout blinds useful?
