8 Ways to Create a Modern Country Bathroom

4th July 2017 by Candace 11 Comments

[AD] Claw-foot freestanding baths, pedestal basins and tongue-and-groove are all classic features of a country bathroom, but modern touches can easily bring this look up-to-date. You could even add an industrial take on a country look by making use of natural or raw materials such as bricks, reclaimed wood and concrete.

So, if you’d love to create a modern country bathroom, but not sure where to start, these ideas from the Big Bathroom Shop will give you plenty of inspiration.

Combine modern and traditional

A claw-foot freestanding bath will become the focal point of any country bathroom, but for a more up-to-date look, combine with a modern basin and toilet. Alternatively, you could choose a contemporary freestanding bath and a traditional sink and loo. If you have enough space, position the freestanding bath in the middle of the bathroom so it’s the first thing that catches your eye when you walk in.

If you prefer showers rather than baths, fit a wet room glass screen or a walk in shower and combine with a traditional style shower head and valve for a truly elegant look.

Metro tiles and woodWood provides a great way to warm up white metro tiles and takes off that urban edge, adding a rustic charm. You could fit a wood effect bath panel and a mirror with a wooden frame, or if you’re feeling creative, why not use reclaimed wood, which you could use to make shelves.

Use reclaimed materials

Exposed brick and recycled wood planks can really add character to your modern country bathroom or downstairs loo. To enhance a sense of space, fit reclaimed wood panels horizontally, and build in a shelf for toiletries and to conceal the cistern if you have a back-to-wall toilet. But, make sure to do your research on how to clean and seal the wood before committing to this idea.

Classic tongue-and-groove

Tongue-and-groove is a classic when it comes to country bathrooms, but to bring it up-to-date, paint in a contemporary shade of grey for a chic hotel look. Paint the window frame, door and bath panel in a complementary neutral colour, which will freshen up your bathroom and make an impact if you’re on a limited budget.

Refreshing white

White walls work great with wooden elements, and whitewashed floorboards instantly add a rustic country touch. Combine with modern fixtures and a frameless shower enclosure, and soften the look with a faded cotton rug for a relaxed vibe. White is also perfect for creating a bright and airy feel in a small bathroom.

Modern comfort

If there’s enough space, a stylish chair can add a little luxury and comfort to your modern country bathroom. Combine with modern fixtures and a traditional freestanding bath, and complete the look with a vase of flowers. You could even place a small table next to the bath to keep your bathing essentials close to hand.

Heritage details

Elegant fixtures and fittings such as cross-head taps are perfect for adding a country style vibe to a modern space. Enhance the look with a traditional exposed shower valve and rose fixed shower head. Consider the finish when choosing taps and a shower, as you don’t have to stick to the usual chrome. Copper adds a chic touch to a traditional bathroom, while gold is ideal for adding an opulent touch.

Rustic touches

If you have a modern bathroom, you can easily add some rustic country touches with wicker baskets and a ladder towel rail. Traditional accessories, a framed mirror and luxurious towels in soft pastel hues will perfectly enhance a modern country bathroom theme and add those all-important final details.
