Simple Things You Can Do For A Better Sleep

[AD] Sleep is something that’s absolutely crucial for maintaining good physical and mental health, yet with our modern lifestyles often getting in the way of a good night’s rest, many of us are getting nowhere near the recommended amount for ensuring that we stay healthy.

Whether you’re actively not sleeping enough by doing things like working too much, trying to fit everything in, or even partying too much, or whether you’re simply not able to sleep because of things like stress or insomnia, then there are definitely some lifestyle changes you can make that will help you get more sleep if this is something you currently struggle with.

It’s also important to note that these tips probably won’t work if what you’re dealing with is chronic insomnia – if this is left without treatment then it can cause real health problems, so you’ll need to speak to a health professional so that they can determine the best course of treatment and try to get you back to a normal sleep routine as quickly as possible.

In this post, we’re going to share with you some simple things you can do for a night of better sleep.

Have an evening routine:

This is something that’s often recommended for babies and young children, yet it’s not something we think of doing for ourselves, and it should be. When you think of all the stimuli you’re subjected to during the day, it’s going to take a while to wind down in the evening, and it’s not going to just happen on its own. That’s why, even if you’re exhausted from working or being on the go all day, you sometimes get to bed and can’t fall asleep – because your mind is still over-active and hasn’t been able to relax the way you’re body is telling it to. The way you deal with this is by creating an evening routine that allows your body and mind to relax. This can be anything from reading a book with some herbal tea, taking a nice bubble bath, or even putting on some relaxing music. You can get completely creative with your routine, as long as it’s something that works for you and relaxes you, then it will work.

Avoid too much alcohol:

Many of us are guilty of thinking that taking a glass of wine in the evening is the best way to relax and de-stress, but this is something that’s best avoided because if you need to relax every evening, then incorporating alcohol into your evening routine comes with risks -not only the health risks but dependency risks as well. The other issue with alcohol is that it doesn’t make us sleep in the way we need – this is part of the reason for that nasty hangover after a night of partying. Alcohol makes you sleep, but not in the same way as is needed for complete rest.

Ditch the caffeine:

A cup of good coffee is something most of us enjoy to start our day, and that’s totally fine, but too much caffeine during the day can seriously affect our sleep. Even beverages like tea, including some green tea, actually contain small amounts of caffeine, so try switching to something like herbal loose leaf tea after a certain point in the day to ensure your sleep pattern isn’t disturbed.

Get a new mattress:

A mattress can make or break your sleep, and they’re not all made equally. If you’ve ever suffered from a sore back after waking up or simply can’t seem to get a night of sleep, then your mattress could be the culprit and it’s time for a new one. Of course, there are so many mattresses out there to choose from that it can be overwhelming to know which one you should choose. You could start by looking at places like silentnight mattresses to see which type is best for your needs.
